Description
The 3rd 'Weaving Festival' is back by popular demand! Nan Fung Group's community project 'The World of Mouth' focuses on sustainable development, community design and cultural and creative industries, and organises a diverse range of events to connect with the community. The annual project 'Weaving Festival' takes weaving as its theme, inviting the public to step into the world of weavers and explore the endless possibilities of weaving together.
As one of the oldest handicrafts, every thread in weaving carries the wisdom of our ancestors and the cultural background of the creator, bearing witness to the passage of time. From 30 May to 5 July 2026, the 3rd 'Weaving Festival' will be held at The Mills, passing on the rich textile culture of The Mills, and providing a platform for exchange between creators and the public who are passionate about textile arts. Through themed exhibitions, textile markets and immersive sound experiences, the event will bring textile arts into the community.
Singer-songwriter Chan Rei's nearly three-meter-high large-scale crochet work 'Fantasy of the Deserted Island' makes a stunning debut
This year's 'Weaving Festival' takes 'From Perspective to Weaving, Every Thread is an Attitude' as its theme, inviting the public to see through the eyes of weavers and understand the thoughts and practices behind the creations. Singer-songwriter Chan Rei presents her cross-disciplinary creative vision with the large-scale crochet work 'Fantasy of the Deserted Island'. Hanging in the Fabric Hall, the nearly three-meter-high artwork spills down like a waterfall, with its blue-green hues resembling the breath of nature, constructing a tranquil yet flowing artistic scene. To her, crocheting is not just a skill, but also a form of creative meditation that brings calm to the mind and body. Like in music composition, she is used to being led by her intuition, transforming abstract concepts in her mind into tangible objects, and weaving her thoughts into an artistic experience filled with warmth and healing power. The public and fans are invited to step into her creative world and immerse themselves in the illusory realm woven by her hands and imagination.
'From Perspective to Weaving' Exhibition: A Deep Exploration of the Weaver's Creative Journey
The 'From Perspective to Weaving' themed exhibition at the Fabric Hall will transform into the creator's room, leading the audience through the process of a woven object from concept to completion, from drawings and sketches to fabrics and tools. Local fashion brand Still House presents 'AN JING, the precise daily', turning the exhibition venue into a simple and tidy sample room (Pattern Room). In an era that emphasises efficiency, the brand insists on collaborating with local garment factories, allowing the audience to explore the concept of 'timeless' design and experience the pure message that the brand hopes to convey. Onka, a master of traditional crafts using antique fabrics, will bring a private studio that seems frozen in the 1930s to 1950s, displaying natural dye test fabrics and ageing tools. The audience can understand how he extracts elements from historical images and adjusts the cut to fit modern body shapes through his complex sketches and visual diaries.

Hong Kong's largest textile market, second-hand market and weaving workshops bring weaving into everyday life
On 30 and 31 May, the 'Weaver's Stall Market', a collaboration between The World of Mouth and LIFEMART, will feature nearly 40 local textile and design brands, showcasing how creators transform traditional crafts into contemporary creativity. Highlighted stallholders include a piece of... for hand-sewn hemp clothing, 'Yuanmu Seeds' for seed jewellery and instrument creation, Captain Ryan for rope-tied magatama brand, and No Brand Gear for mountain camping products.
During the event, there will be up to 10 weaver's workshops for the public to participate in, covering crafts such as Russian embroidery, fabric art, and flower ornaments. Breakthrough Art Studio will host three carefully curated workshops to create ethnic woven belts, ethnic woven straps, or mini bamboo-woven fans, allowing participants to appreciate different materials and techniques, and experience the joy and healing power of weaving. BC Workshop, a veteran custom shoe modification craftsman, will also provide on-site customisation services, pressing exclusive words on genuine leather shoe labels and sewing them onto shoes.
On 6 and 7 June, the curatorial team will collaborate with Retrovert, a local second-hand clothing platform, to host a second-hand 'Crab Market'. Through the careful selection of nearly 10 stallholders, high-quality textiles will be passed on between different owners, giving new life to old items and practising a sustainable fashion lifestyle.

Immersive Installation Sound Experience: Wander through the Mills and Discover Urban Memories
Another highlight of the 'Weaving Festival' is the immersive installation sound experience 'Listen - A Cotton Tree's Love Letter', created by director Yan Botuo and art director Ma Jia Ming, based on the literary work of writer Chan Wai. Adapted from Chan Wai's short story 'A Cotton Tree's Love Letter', written for The World of Mouth, the theatre piece is a sound experience journey that unfolds at The Mills. The audience will wander through different spaces, stepping into fragments and memories of the story, listening to a cotton tree's love letter to the city.
The work takes the life trajectories of three generations of women as its main thread, weaving the emotions of textile, labour, family and growth into the venue. Director Yan Botuo transforms the delicate words into sounds and visuals, contrasting the gentle yet resilient qualities of the cotton tree with the struggles of women from different eras against the harsh realities of life. The cotton tree is no longer just a symbol of strength, but also a guardian, accompanying the women of the city as they grow. From 30 May to 21 June, this letter to the city and its women will guide the audience to rediscover gentleness and kindness.
Through this series of cross-media experiments, the 'Weaving Festival' not only passes on history but also explores alternative experiences in the midst of urban transformation, weaving new possibilities for creation.
